Wasps are easily recognised by most people in the U.K. They are considerably smaller than the bee, they have yellow and black bands on their bodies and two pairs of wings. At the start of spring the wasps will start to construct their nests and by September time the nests will be at their maximum size and by then the nest may contain up to 10,000 workers. These pests are a nuisance to humans during the late summer, as the weather becomes cooler the wasps are more likely to sting. A wasp sting is not considered serious but it is painful and in some cases can cause a reaction. Unlike bees, wasps can sting many times.
