The most common beetles in this country are the carpet beetles. There are several species of the carpet beetle but the two most common are the black “fur beetle” (attagenus pelio) and the varied carpet beetle (anthrenus verbasci).
The fur beetle is about 4-6mm in length and is recognised by a white spot on each of its wings. The varied carpet beetle is 2-4mm in length, looking very similar to a ladybird, it is brown, cream and grey in colour.
The carpet beetles are domestic pests, they are attracted to the warmth of central heating and fitted carpets make the perfect place for breeding. The beetle will attack furs, carpets and any woollen textiles causing damage to your home furnishings and clothes.
