Bed bugs are 4mm in length and 2.5mm wide.
These insects are a serious problem found in residential and the hotel environment, they are attracted to high occupancy as they feed on human blood. Although they are not nocturnal they are usually active at night but given the opportunity they will feed during the day usually every 5-10 days. They bite into the skin with two hollow tubes, one tube injecting saliva containing anticoagulants and anaesthetics while the other draws out the blood. This will cause the skin to become irritated and inflamed and will be felt within a few minutes or hours. The first sign of a bed bug bite will be intense scratching, the bite mark will be a raised red bump or flat welt.
Bed bugs have the ability to crawl, climb walls and furniture and jump. Female bed bugs can lay up to five eggs a day. If you suspect you have these parasites they are best dealt with by qualified professionals so you need to proceed to a pest control service in order to eradicate the problem. Which is where we come in, call M Pest Control and we will deal with the problem for you.
Prior to treatment:
All bedding should be removed and washed at 60 deg.
All clothing adjacent to the affected area should also be washed as hot as possible.
Surfaces, flooring, furniture and under the bed should also be cleared. Treatment times vary according to the size and accessibility of the room but as an estimate allow 30-45 minutes per room.
Treated properties do not need to be vacated and beds can be used again as soon as they are dry (normally 4-5 hours after max).
It is important not to hoover or wash treated flooring for ten days after treatment.
